President Donald Trump’s deputy nationwide safety adviser, KT McFarland, has been requested to step down after simply three months, US media say.
It comes days after Mr Trump eliminated his senior strategist Steve Bannon from the Nationwide Safety Council (NSC).
The NSC advises the president on nationwide safety and overseas affairs.
Mr Bannon’s appointment in January raised fears that the circle of prime advisers was being politicised.
Analysts say the most recent strikes present Mr Trump’s new nationwide safety adviser, Lt Gen HR McMaster, reshaping the NSC group appointed by his predecessor.
The earlier nationwide safety adviser, Lt Gen Michael Flynn, was fired after simply three weeks and three days within the job, after it emerged he had misled the vice-president over his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the US.
